Our Consulting Process

We want to help you make the best use of the space you have. Our consulting services can give you the confidence you need to move forward with your ecological landscape design. Professional assistance early in the design process can save you countless hours and thousands of dollars.

In our typical consultation package we will walk your land with you and share observations about soil, water flow, and weather patterns. We will offer suggestions about beneficial plants for your context, rain-water harvesting features, and micro-climate management strategies. Depending on what you are looking for, we can also suggest ideal placement of garden and landscape features and give you some resources for furthering your own observations of your environment.

If you are looking for specific information or assistance on building your own design, we also offer the following resource packages, all of which include an in-person or virtual consult.

Soil Health Packages

  • We will gather a soil sample, have it tested at a soil lab for organic matter levels, mineral levels, soil pH, and particle size. We will provide you with a written report as well as a brief consultation to explain the results.

  • Using a penetrometer, we will test your soil for areas of high compaction. Using this tool, we can assess at what depth the soil remains soft vs hard. This information can guide decisions about improving soil health that impact water infiltration and plant health.

Mapping Packages

  • A base map of your property showing property lines, permanent and structures and large trees

  • A contour map of your property that includes water flow patterns.

Resource Packages

  • This package includes a report on the general climatic and soil conditions of your area as well as links to relevant local resources to further your knowledge.

  • An extensive list of questions, reflection prompts, and activities to help you develop a deeper understanding of your property. The observations you make as you follow this guide will form a basis for your own design decisions.

  • Purchase blocks of 5 to 10 hours so we can support you with research and ideas for your own design projects.

Sliding Scale Pricing

We believe in the impact and value of the work we can do for you while also recognizing that there are sometimes financial limitations to getting your dreams off the ground. 

This is why we offer sliding scale pricing for all our consulting and design services. When you receive a quote from us, you will see three pricing options - a subsidized rate, a true-value rate, and a pay-it-forward rate to help support others. You choose which of the three prices is right for you with no questions asked.  

This is simply another way we can care for the earth and for each other as we work towards a positive future together.
